Poem – Woman of the future

I am a child
I am all the things of my past
I am the eyebrows from my father
Black and thick.
I am the mouth of my mother
Eating every night.

I am all I see
The new bedroom for me with the colorful picture stuck on the wall.
New kittens born on the wooden bed with their mother.
Nice soft hair, with a long tails.
Wind blowing leaves and along the ground.
People buying the food at the market and bargaining with the seller.

I am all I hear
Boom ! Boom ! the loud sounds of fireworks going in the sky.
Vroom! Vroom ! the sound of my father’s motor starting to work.
Water from the pipe falling to the floor
Drip, drip, drip.

I am all I feel and taste
A sour orange with a bumpy skin.
Sweet watermelon with hard seeds and smooth skin.
Soft rice and the aroma of peppery chicken.

And all I remember
Getting hit by the teacher when I came to class late.
Hiding behind the tree and getting bitten by the bee.
Riding the boat with my brother across the river when i was young.

I am all I have been taught
Never go with someone that I don’t know.
No talking when the food’s in your mouth.
Wash! Wash ! your hand before touching the food.

I am all I think
Being a leader and leading the people in good ways.
Being a good student, daughter, friend in the future.
Going to every country all around the world by aeroplane.

I am all those things
I’m like an ant.
And these thing are my nest.

But one day I will achieve my goal.
And be free

Because
I’m the woman of the future.

Botany 1 Description

Name of Course: Botany 1

Learning Facilitator: Jojo

Number of Students: 12

Advanced Enrichment Dates: August 12-Oct 17

Days We Meet: Monday and Tuesday

Course Description:  In Botany class we learned about the plants. Every day when we studied in the class we had the time to experiment the plants. First we took the seed toput it in the containers and we put the water for the seed. So that means everyday we needed to come and check the seed that we have grown and we need to take notes about our seed that we grew so we can know how much that the seed has grownin each day. Then we learned about photosynthesis. It means the plants get the sunlight from the sun to make photosynthesis and the plant makes photosynthesis by the leaf. The plants will make their own food. In each day we had the competition with each other about our plants that we have grown and which plants that grow the tallest is the winner. After that we have learned about how he plant get germinate. Germinate mean the plants is start to grow. How the plants germinate is first it start from the seed then the seed get bigger and then it broke their skin then the seed it broke in a half then the roots come out when their roots grow bigger their stem start to grow too then it have the leaves so we need to put the soil for the plants grow and that is how the plants germinate.

Number of Students: 12

Essential Questions:

1. How will jobs that help Cambodia look different in the future?

2. What motivates people to choose the job they do?

Description: In Exploration round five we learned about Future Careers. We learned about how jobs will help Cambodia in the future. On the first day, we did personal profiles. We had to include our name, our strengths, our favorite things and our goal. We did that because we wanted everyone to know us when they came to our school. We also had a trip to SGFE (Sustainable Green Fuel Enterprise). It is the place where they make charcoal out of coconut shells. It really helps Cambodia because they take the waste pickers to work in there so that they have a good job and they can get money for their children to go to school. Also, they help the environment by recycling things. The next thing we did was the research project. We researched about the global problems. We got to choose our own topics. The topics were about Mekong River, chemicals in the food, poverty, nuclear energy, dengue fever and etc. Then, we went to job shadow. It means we are the shadow of the worker. We interviewed them about how they are working. Everyone got to go to two workplaces. The places that we went to are Northbridge International School, Plantation hotel, Small Word, Osja studio, A.N.D and more.

Tropical Forest Ecology Description

Exploration Name: Forest Ecology

Exploration Dates: Oct 7, 2013 – Nov 19, 2013

Number of students: 12

Essential Questions: (1) What is an ecosystem? (2) What is a natural resource?

Description: An ecosystem is the living things and the non-living things connecting with each other. The one example is algae. Algae take the sunlight for food and fish eat algae and then people eat fish. This is one connection. In Ecosystems class we had a journey book to take notes or write keywords that we don’t know what that word means. In Ecology class the first topic that we learned was tropical forest. We did not just learn only tropical forests but we also learned a lot of kinds of forests like conifers and others. A tropical forest is the forest that has rain a lot all year. We also learned about ecological relationships. Ecological relationships mean that one organism and another organism connect with each other. Ecological relationships are divided in five parts. They are parasitism, commensalism, predator-prey, mutualism and competition. Our Ecology group went to Mondulkiri province to study there. We spent six days at Mondolkiri. We met a lot of people like Bunong people. On Saturday we came back to our school and we shared what we learned.

Crisis Management Description

Exploration Name: Crisis Management

Exploration Dates: November 20th-January 17th

Number of students: 11

Essential Questions/Areas: 1. What is a crisis?

2. How do people, especially  in Cambodia, manage crises?

3. What are natural disasters and how are they related to  crises?

Description: In our crisis Exploration we learned a lot of things that happen outside in the environment. Crisis is the bad thing that happens to people and is unsafe to people. Example: the cars are crashing or the train is falling. We learned about what is a natural disaster. Natural disasters are caused by nature. Natural disasters are: earthquakes, avalanches, and storms, for example. Then we talked about a volcano. A volcano is the mountain that has magma inside. When it is erupting out, the magma will turn to lava. Lava can make islands when it touches the cold place and it turns to the rock. Crisis management is how the aid workers help people when there is a crisis. One way they help is by evacuating people away. Example: when it has a flood, aid workers evacuate people out to the safe place. We also took a trip to share with the students at the government school at Takhmao City. We chose this school because this is the old school that two Liger students have learned at before. We taught the students who were in grades 5 and 6. We shared some things that we learned like floods, storms, earthquakes, and avalanches. The students werevery smart to answer the questions and understand the information.
